False Spring

It certainly felt like a false spring reaching day temps of 16 degrees with not a breath of wind and everyone walking round in shorts and T shirts. This soon took a turn on Friday when a northerly wind hit giving us minus temperatures throughout the night! With the mild weather would it throw up a surprise or two…

Ed Prosser in Alamo, Eds been here before and fished it in the same style out and out boilie approach for a big carp! Ed kicked started his spot-on Sunday with 4kg of baitworks royal marine and creamo boilie. Then further topped this up with a few spombs each day. On Thursday he was rewarded with the Clean Fish at a new top weight of 63lb12oz. Ed fished at 30 wraps and fished a simple fluorocarbon knotless knot style with a match the hatch bottom bait.

Lee Rolf In Alcatraz, Lee started the week at 28wraps and managed to nick a small stocky before the weather allowed him to get into the swing of things and push to 33 wraps. Lee baited with Cell boilie whole and crumb and corn 3 times a day totalling 15 spombs a day. Lee fished spinner rigs with fake corn over the top. Lee had another 3 small stockies once he pushed out to 33 wraps. Ending the week on 4 fish.

Ian Robberts aka Donk in Pole Position, started the week in similar form to lee fishing at 28 wraps before getting use to casting at range and then fishing at 33 wraps. The first night ian pushed to 33wraps he was rewarded with a stocky.  Ian fished spinners with fake corn and baited with cell whole and crumbed along with corn. A good display in angling and wish I am still as passionate about getting on the bank by the time im his age (71).

Dave in Cos Point started the week at 29 wraps and soon pushed to 31 once getting use to his gear and pushing his limits. On Wednesday night Dave was rewarded with 2 small stockies unfortunately that was all the action for Dave other than the odd perch! Dave fished spinners with yellow pop ups with a mix of boilie crumb and corn.

With 8 anglers on and 8 fish caught for the week, they worked hard for the results and didn’t give up, despite the fishing good food and social able laughs made the week for all. With wintery conditions forecast for the following weeks, will there be a few of the A team show themselves? Or will it slow right up! Who knows but stay tuned.
