Week Commencing: Sat 01/07/2023

Spawned Out!!

This week we saw 12 anglers from two different groups attack the main lake! Plenty of highs and lows and mor importantly plenty of fish caught. Some very impressive fish out this week with one fish in particular blowing peoples minds!

First of we have Beau Beasley fishing from Big Southerly. With no one in Scotties corner at the start of the week Beau was struggling to make his mind up on what swim to be in but he made a wise decision for this week to stay in Big Southerly. Beau fished the go to spots, 14 wraps down the left towards the snag and 25.5 wraps to the hump to the left of Alcatraz. Beau caught a couple of smaller ones throughout the week but on the Friday morning his 14 wrap spot was away with Pip’s at 71lb! what a way to finish off a week. Beau ended his week on 4 fish with Pip’s being the biggest, Spinners with wafters topped with fake maize over the top of Boilie and Maize done him his fish!

Jon Peel came out 4th in the draw and knowing himself not to be a big caster he wanted one of the corner swims, Treeline or Baxter’s were his choices and after the immaculate being seen in Baxter’s the week before it was a no brainer! After spending five days in Baxter’s with no fish to his name and seeing them Infront of Oblivion it was time for a move. This was the best thing Jon could have done all week, after a quick lead around he opted for a spot 14 wraps out and after putting in 25 spombs of mixed hemp and maize with 15 and 20mm boilie he was away!  Two Time at a massively spawned out weight of 61lb 8oz. Jon was fishing all 3 rods on spinners with little 12mm yellow isotonic pop ups. What a move and what a way to save a week.

Richard Day opted to fish in Bob’s Beach and he managed a pretty steady week. Landing seven fish in total with Strauss Family Commonat 48lb 4oz and the biggest being The Up Front Common at 51lb. Richard had all three rods at 25 wraps between Alamo and the Stink with a spread of 25kg Royal Marine boilies, Snow man D-Rigs with size 4 curve shanks got him his bites.

Andy Day in Alamo also had a steady week, fishing bait and rig wise identical to his brother in Beach they must have been doing something right! Andy landed 8 fish for his week with some lovely scaley ones, Cookies and Cream being the pick of the bunch at 40lb 8oz but his biggest for the week was Scratches at 49lb 8oz! Andy would have all his bites in the day as the fish migrated from there night spot the other side of the pond. He would have a fish like clockwork every evening just after dinner so having his rigs ready and spot baited it was a case of just pinging them out after dinner and this key! Andy was fishing 30 wraps towards Baxter’s with royal marine and Snow Man D- Rigs.

James Tully in Co’s Point Also had a steady week landing 6 fish. James started of fishing the go to 31 wrap spot towards the tits but after a night and not feeling rite he made the rite move to come back to 28 wraps. He started of with 10kg of mixed particle and boilie. On his first night fishing the new spot he had two upper 20,s he carried on the process waiting for them to move back in at a night time and he finally got rewarded with a better fish and a rare one, Digit’s at 45lb 8oz and a new P.B. James every night would top up his swim with 5kg of the same mix. Fishing size 4 spinner rigs on the deck with 14mm balanced IB wafters soaked in Isotonic goo, these fish really do love the isotonic in here.

Brothers Andy and Steve Champion put on a great performance all week in Pole Position and Stock Pond! Steve in Pole fished the 19 wrap spot towards the scary tree just right of big southerly and ended his week on 7 fish. His biggest for the week was 2 C’s at 53lb 8oz. Spinners with Bait room pop ups over cell and krill boilies. Steve would introduce 5kg a day on that spot to keep things going. Andy in Stock Pond pretty much fished identical to his brother rig wise but Andy ended on 15 fish with the biggest being The Leather at 45lb. Andy was fishing 27 wraps towards the pipes and 17.5 wraps to the right of Oblivion feeding the same, 5kg a day but with Link boilies instead. The 17.5 wrap spot produced most of Andy’s fish.

Myself ended up in Big Girls and decided to put all 3 rods in one basket at 26 wraps towards the spit. Feeding just boilie and loads of them! I fed the spot for 3 days before I put a rod on it and within a few hours each evening before the sun went down I would catch a couple. Nothing massive a upper 20 was my biggest. Fishing my standard 4inch spinners with match the hatch pop up over the top.

Another successful week on the main lake. The fish are very hungry now after spawning so boilie is great shout in these next coming months!

Until Next Time
