Week Commencing: Sat 08/07/2023

Northern Time.

Well it was Steff Rod’s annual lake exclusive this week on the main and with them all being from the north it was always going to be a good crack and full of banter, was a slow start to the week but it picked up at the end.

Let’s kick of the week with Steff himself coming out early in the draw and with Big Southerly being available and Pips making an appearance from there the previous week that’s where he ended up for the week ahead. Sticking to the well-known spots left of Alcatraz at 25.5 wraps with 2 rods was a good starting point spinners with Pop up corn doing the damage as per on this complex he managed to land ‘Pearly lin’ at 47lb and ‘Haribo’at  38lb 8oz, he had another 2 smaller fish to 21lb. baiting wise he went with maize and house pellet and 20kg of fish meal boilies.

Next up I had the pleasure of meeting Steven Hurst this week and what a nice guy!, fishing out of the beach short at 20 wraps to showing fish he went on to land 3 fish in one night with ‘Rising Star’ 32lb 12oz being pick of the bunch. A few quite days went by but plenty of fish still out there in front him he started roving a solid bag around to showing fish shortly after being rewarded with ‘Parker’ being very spawned out at 46lb 2oz fake corn yet again as the hook bait inside the solid bag. He then finished of the week with giving me an early morning wakeup call on the Saturday with “This one can’t leave the water Joe” well he wasn’t wrong he had the mega ‘2 C’s’ 52lb sat in the net waiting for pictures, this fish came of the baited spot 20wraps out right of stink on a pink snowman using the spinner rig. Steve used 15kg of royal marine and 10kg of house maize for his spod mix this week.

Eric’s last fishing trip to France after many years was always going to b e a special one for him he managed to get in Treeline a swim he’s never been in before, baiting spoon he rigs out on the 21 wraps margin spot he was the 1st to catch and at that it was ‘Apple Crumble’ at 27lb and what a fish it was. Sticking to his spots down the left margin he manged another 2 fish to 22lb using spinner rigs with SSM and plenty of fishmeal boilies and house mix particle was the baiting approach.

I had the pleasure of wetting a line in Big Girls this week and with plenty of fishing showing out at the spit 26 wraps that’s where I set about, baiting from the edge with a baiting spoon to keep noise down to a minimum using 18mm link and cell and plenty of our 9mm house pellet I was off to a flyer with 3 fish in one night to 34lb. following night I managed to have another 2 takes but sadly lost them in the weed just right of my spot, I did manged 2 more fish the following night with a 30lb common being the biggest. I used my ever faithful IQ-D rig with 16mm yellow fake dumbbellas the hook bait, I then swapped swims with Mike Hurst, so now in was in Baxter’s for the final 2 nights of the week and the Immaculate Common being seen in there the week previous I was very giddy to say the least… I did manage a take in there fishing 2 rods at the marker pole 25.5 wraps with it resulting in a 29lb 4oz stocky yet again on the D-rig of 25 spombs of the house pellet.

Italian stallion Cello was in the Alamo fishing the usual long spot left of beach at 31 wraps a nice hard firm spot just before the weed with all 3 rods, it taken him to BBQ night to finally get amongst them with a 3 fish hit and one proper banging original ‘Happy daze’ at 29lb 14oz. after the first few days Cello decided he might of got his hook bait chose a little wrong then once he swapped over to yellow plastics he then got amongst a few fish falling to spinners and feeding maize over the top finally got him bites.

Lee Guest had a bad draw and still managed to get himself in Scotties and with plenty of fish in there on the walk round I couldn’t believe it was left so late to be picked, well he didn’t fish the 1st night deciding to leave it alone an just stick some free offerings out there with the catapult the fish done the off on Sunday an didn’t come back till mid-week. Just one small stocky of 19lb in the name ‘The Snacker’ for his efforts and the week was soon over. Pva bags just shy of the weed bed at 16 wraps all week and just a small scattering of boilies each night.

Camocarpy Brent went for stock pond fishing the short spot at 17.5 wraps straight at oblivion and after a few days with no action he swapped over to the longer spot directly at the inlet pipes 26 wraps, and with easy access of baiting it from the side margin with his krill boilies it didn’t take him long to land ‘Equalled’ at 46lb 4oz and 2 more fish up to 36lb. spinners rigs once again slipping these Gigantica carp up is no surprise at all with fake hook baits once again.

Last up we have Mike Hurst and with a swap of swims with me over to Big girls he manged to jump on the fish an land 3 stockies in a couple of nights. Following on from me baiting with the spoon with house particles fishing his solid bags over the top same spot at 26wraps was what got him the bites in the end.

Overall a brilliant week with plenty of laughs, always nice to get a lake exclusive every now and then an with this bunch being from mainly Manchester it made it even better!

Following on from recent weeks solid bags house particles just keep on working and not to mention the SSM and pop up maize hook baits.

Just a quick reminder to lads coming out in upcoming weeks we are now doing night shots and no sacking of fish so it is advisable to bring some camera equipment/tripods for self takes of any fish under 40lb in the night hours,

But for now

All the best,

Joe.
