Week Commencing: Sat 29/07/2023

Scaley Bangers!!

We had the pleasure of welcoming 9 regulars through the gates this week and then 3 new faces witch of course are always welcome, bit of a change in weather this week with winds hitting us at 50mph and big rain storms it sure turned the carp on and we managed a 63 fish haul.

It would be rude not to kick things of with Dean Marshall fishing in Co’s point for the 3rd time out of 4 trips. Fishing the flat oak at 28.5 wraps in slightly softer ground just where he left of from his trip 2022 where I actually met Dean it was a pleasure to bailiff him and his mates this week, wasting no time he was straight into fish landing an average of 2 fish a day with ‘Buzzing Fish’ 57lb ‘The Koi’ 53lb ‘Smartie Pants’ 47lb 8oz ‘Digits’ 46lb ‘Starry’ 45lb 6oz ‘Apple Slices’ 44lb and ‘Melboure Star’ 37lb they was just the originals! All fish caught on a spread of K2 boilies in 10mm 15mm and 20mm mainly put out with the stick and then also spombing corn maize hemp and pellet to add a good variety of bait glugged in liquid fish an hemp oils, dean managed to get through 40kg of boilie and 50kg of particle. It was nice to see a change in the favoured ‘rock hard spot’ to slightly softer ground and it most defiantly paid off, all deans fishing falling to combi-rigs with match the hatch K2 wafters hook baits. Would like to say all the best in the BCAC finals in a few week’s time you and Ian!.

After fishing the road lake for a few years Chris Smith made his way over to main lake for the 1st time this week and picking out ball 1 he went in the inform Pole Position, with all the bites in this swim coming from short distance he followed on from previous weeks fishing 16wraps to Alamo an that’s where the magic happened, after a couple days had passed fishless Chris started to introduce a bit more bait an then that’s when he started getting amongst the fish racking up 12 fish for the week and his 1st time on the main it was quite impressive. 1 50lb  to add to his belt ‘2C’s’ at 53lb was pick of the bunch and then ‘The Exclusive’ 43lb a new top weight with plenty of stockies to add to his list of fish. Mainline cell in 18mm with plenty of corn and maize fishing over the top with German rigs with double SSM soaked in isotonic goo.

As per usual Ben Oaks and his Mrs Gemma didn’t fail when it came down to catching carp, coming out 11th in the draw they went with Baxter’s having never fished it before he fishing the usual spot to the marker pole at 25.5 wraps had a slow start to the week but once they started showing in front of him it wasn’t going to be long and his 1st fish of the week was ‘The Clean Fish’ at 63lb 8oz with his week already made he still continued to put the work in and finished the week on 12 fish with a couple lost. As always using his faithful CC More pacific tuna boilies mixed up with house particles and rig of choice was combi rigs IQD boom with a supernatural hook link with match the hatch wafters on the Heli safe system.

Ian Day was off to a flyer in Oblivion having a bite with in 30mins of getting the rods out being rewarded with the pristine looking ‘Cookies&Cream’ 41lb 10oz, not hanging around at all he went in heavy with the bait fishing just on the back of a thick weed bed at 29.5 wraps to the margin between Baxter’s and beach. Same as dean using there K2 boilies with a scattering of maize and hemp pellet and a bottle of pineapple smart liquid per 17l bucket!!, 7” spinner rigs with are Gigantica specials 12mm pop ups. Ian kept the bites coming in slowly over the next couple of days but once Monday evening come the storms rolled in an he was getting 50mph winds smashing him in the face meaning he had to drop short into the margins for the next couple of days whilst it passed it wasn’t long before he was back on the long spot and back amongst the fish rounding out his week with 11 fish  ‘Polly’ being his 2nd biggest at 41lb and numerous 30’s to add. Would like to say all the best in the BCAC finals in a few week’s time you and Dean!.

Scott Higham started of the week in Scotties but a couple days in when he realised the fish weren’t there he upped sticks and move into Treeline and fished a new spot at 24 wraps straight at stink. Starting of baiting as he knew the spots was bang on he began to introduce Mainline link 18mm chops/whole soaked in fish smart liquid it was the following morning he managed his 1st take of the session and it being the mega ‘Chop Dorsal’ 50lb new PB and looking awesome! Shortly later he was away again this time we was going bigger it was ‘Patched Fully’ at the mega weight of 56lb 8oz who’d of thought it 2 PB’s in one day and 2 of our sort after scaleys. Nice and simple IQD-Rigs with double SSM.

Ian McDonald went along said big Ian in Big girls this week and following on from what previous anglers have been doing in there baiting  from the edge and fishing at 26wraps towards the spit he only managed the 2 fish with the better one being one of our home grown stockies ‘fish Finger’ 29lb and then ‘Snowy’s Halflin’ 26lb 8oz, simple baiting house particles and spinners with Gigantica specials 12mm pop ups.

Paul Higham ended up in stink for the 2nd time on the bounce and with the ‘Lippy Common’ coming from 30 wraps towards the Beach that’s where he started off, days had passed before he got his only bite and that was a 40lb common named ‘Wrap Around’. Mainline link 10mm 15mm and 18mm mixed with corn fishing spinners wafters style with match the hatch hook baits.

Charlie went in beach for the week and the fish showing short on him at 20 wraps that’s where he deployed his rigs on a nice firm spot aiming out on the far bank at the boulders, 3 bites for the week ‘Baby Chocco’ being the biggest at 35lb and then the wonderful scaley ‘Apple Crumble’ 27lb and then a 30lb stockie on the last morning. Mainline essential cell and activate with match the hatch hook baits.

Darren walker had the chance to jump in Alcatraz for the week and finding a hole in the weed bed just short at 14 wraps in front of the swim it did produce 3 fish for the week and a 32lb common being pick of the bunch, house particles and the popular spinners doing the doo once again.

That’s a wrap on another busy week on the main lake and a wild one with the weather we was dealt, a lot of fishing coming now of big beds of boilie it’s just showing they’re well on the feed for the time of year,

But for now ,

All the best

Joe.
