Week Commencing: Sat 19/08/2023

RIP Bernard!

This week it felt like we were all sat in the centre of the sun with our first week of upper 30 degrees of the year, and this made a massive impact on the fishing! Although it was hard going for the first few days the fish eventually got their heads down and the boys manage a few nice ones.

First of we have Shane in Scotties. Shane picked out ball one and with the recent form Scotties has had he made no hesitation marking his name on the board and this was a hero decision! He started of the week with his first fish on Monday landing the mighty “Digit’s” at 46lb 4oz. He then went on to catch steady through the week, catching mostly stockie’s but on the Friday morning something special happened! A picture of this fish in the net was sent to the group chat with the caption saying, “help its Massive” and he wasn’t wrong. A few checks later and we could confirm it was the Queen of the pond “Fudgy’s” at 75lb 10oz a massive well done to him! Shane was fishing 17.5 wraps into the hole in the weed bed and one at the same distance but just of the weed bed. Most of his fish came from the hole fishing spinners on a lead clip with a match the hatch hook bait. Shane kept a steady flow of 15mm cell going in with a throwing stick, probably the best way to attack that swim. Shane was also the first person to receive our new Gigantica 70’s bottle of champaign.

Howard and his son Max came to Giagantica for the first time, and both slotted in Pole and Stock Pond, Max in pole sadly didn’t catch anything but was on hand to help his dad in stock pond who managed to catch a couple. The biggest being the “Long Common” at 51lb not a bad way to open the diary for Gigantica. Howard caught both fish 9 wraps to the whole in the tree line to the right-hand margin fishing solid bags with 4 inch slip D’s inside and 2 peace’s of fake maize. Howard was also keeping the bait going in, not to heavy but steady with a mixture of Link and Maize.

Regular Chris decided to go into Big Suv, Chris had to leave a few days early for work but before he went home, he managed a lovely common “Tank” at 45lb 1oz. After feeding just boilie and realised it wasn’t working, he kept a eye on what was going on around the lake and decided to add some maize and corn to his swim, feeding a whole large tin of corn and some maize it was the next day he managed his fish. Chris started of fishing towards the club house but after seeing some fish show over the go to spot at 25.5 wraps towards Alcatraz he made the correct decision to move. Chris caught it fishing Fluro D-rigs with fake maize as hook bait.

Then we have Dave Hogan who always manages to pull at least one fish out the bag when he comes here and in true Dave style, he didn’t disappoint this time round. Fishing in stink he done his normal thing fishing short and just boilie! Within Dave’s swim he fed a spot 16 wraps but didn’t fish It until halfway through the week, a great tactic if you have the will power to sit on your hands. After a hour or so of the rod going out on this spot it was away with A.W.O.L at 42lb 8oz, the only fish for Dave this week but a proper old one. Dave had his fish from 16 wraps towards beach with combie rigs feeding the new CcMoore test bait.

Our very own Bailiff Gareth Radley AKA Gino had a nice week’s holiday with wife Liz. Liz picked the last ball and ended up with ball 4, not to bad. Co’s Point was available so that’s where they headed. Gino started of fishing at 28 wraps towards the flat oak with just boilie but after a few days with no joy he went out to the 31-wrap spot towards the tit’s and changed his baiting approach to maize and pellet. This served him well with landing 3 fish the biggest being a very old linear called Maddy one that made the week for him! Gino was fishing Fluro D-Rigs with fake slow sinking maize. Liz on the other hand spent the whole week planning a funeral for a bumble bee that they tried rescuing from the lake, the bee passed away and it was a very sad time in Co’s Point! RIP Bernard!

Harry Hogan AKA The Milky Bar Kid, son of Dave made the correct decision to go in Alcatraz from the pegs previous form! But the swim flipped on its head and he didn’t manage a bite for 4 days! Once Chris had left to go home Harry made the correct decision to move into Big southerly and manged to land 4 fish in the last couple of days. The biggest being a nice 32lb scaley. Harry fished down to his left hand margin at 14 wraps towards Alamo and this is where he had all 4 bites from! Caught on solid bags with wafter and combi rigs, feeding maize and the new CcMore test bait.

This week I ended up in Treeline and as normal I left the swim Saturday and let everyone settle in, a little sneaky look into the margin off treeline got the blood flowing after seeing a dozen or so carp. The Sunday night I fed chopped boilie and fished fluro D-rigs with snowmen, after a night with no joy and plenty of fish in my swim all night I made a change to hemp and maize and fished 2 peace’s of fake maize on the same rig. I got the rigs on the dancefloor straight after dinner service and within an hour it was away with a fish that can only be described as an ironing board, “Slate Grey” at 49lb 14oz. I went on to catch two more the following night but after that they soon worked out I was there and done the off.

Next week we got cooler weather coming in so hopefully it kicks them into a proper feed up!

Until next time

Tight lines

Ben
