Week Commencing: Sat 09/09/2023

Anniversary and PB’S.

It was a happy 11th anniversary for Ben oaks and his partner Gemma this week celebrating in true style at the big G.

Im going to kick this week off with biggest fish and off course that fell to Mr nice guy Andy Lewis and coming out ball 10 he still managed to land in the Alamo so a few slow days to begin with then he slipped up ‘Thackery’ 26lb 8oz on a 12ft zig with yellow foam and then later that day he landed ‘The Clean Fish’ at 64lb. 31wraps out towards the left of beach with one zig at 6ft under the surface and them his other 2 rods was using spinners with pink DNA wafters over beds of DNA S7 and SLK with plenty of maize in the mix, just the 2 fish landed this week for andy with a couple he lost as well.

Regular Greg Baillie sure knows how to pick out these fully scaled bangers we have in the lake and this week it was ‘Patched Fully’ he ticked of his list at 56lb, fishing in Scotties for the 1st time just shy of the weed bed at 17 wraps, doing nothing different from previous anglers who have fished this swim over the summer using solid bags and opting to bait the weed bed from the back of Co’s  with a catapult of throwing stick keeping it stealthy as possible, it was just the one fish for Greg and the fish moved on from him. Greg used his usual Bait works royal marine and house pellet scattered in and around the weed bed.

Ben Oakes and his Mrs Gem finally got there selves in Co’s point for there 1st time in many trips and a lot of fish recently coming from the tits 30 wraps he decided to follow on with this spot. A few slow days and the warmer temps came in he manged his 1st bite falling to a 12ft zig with black foam in the name of ‘Bite mark’ at 38lb, as the week passed he manged 4 more fish ‘Big Foot’ 36lb ‘Wrap Around’ 40lb ‘Hot Pants’ 34lb 4oz and finally Gem managed to get in on the action and she landed her new PB ‘Pawprint’ at a mega 56lb!! so it was smiles all round for the pair this week , 2 fish landed from zigs and then the rest fished snowman style on multi combi-rigs with yellow topers over plenty of house particles and DNA SLK and S-7.

Another familiar face Gavin Middlebrook joined us again and he pulled ball 8 this week witch is a really good draw for Gav considering he normally picks 12…. He fished his last session a few weeks back in Baxter’s so when it was available again when it was his time to choose he fancied another shot, having being familiar with the spots it was the usual 25.5 to the marker with all 3 rods using plenty of link boilies done him 5 fish for the week 2 stockie’s and then ‘The President’ 44lb 4oz  ‘A.W.O.L’ 44lb and ‘Mr President’ at 39lb 11oz.

Ben Keirle was in Alcatraz for the week starting off fishing long out to the scary tree 31 wraps with a good spread off bait to begin with but after a few days off nothing to report he backed off the bait and the follow morning he slipped up one of our old scaly originals ‘Buzz’s Kamo’ 38lb 4oz, unfortunately that was the only fish for Ben after a tough week but he kept faith right to the end, used krill Boilies and house maize throughout the week with spinner rigs with SSM.

Barry parker made his way through the gates of the big G for the 1st time this week and what a way to start with 2 fish on the opening night in Bob’s Beach he landed 2 mirrors to 37lb, a few slow days passed and on the breakfast run Wednesday morning he managed to land ‘Equiled’ 49lb, combi rigs with cell wafters with a SSM topper. Barry was fishing 20wraps out in front aiming at the boulders on the far margin and he was using mainline cell 40kg and 20kg of maize heavily glugging in cell smart liquid.

Lee another new guest this week and his 1st visit to main lake going with the game plan off just targeting one big fish Stink was the perfect choice for a week’s angling, taking no time at all he was plumbed up at 30 wraps to Bob’s Beach at 30 wraps with all 3 rods baiting heavily over the top with mainline link and iso-fish also including into the mix was  house pellet seen him land 3 fish on his opening night with ‘Slate Grey’ at 53lb and then the ‘Pearly Linear’ at 47lb an then a small stockie of 25lb, and that was all for lee the rest of the week passed with out anymore bites, Lees fish fell to IQD-rigs with link wafters.

Ben Whittaker was in treeline this week and taking no time at all landed 3 fish on his 1st night up to 33lb, mixing it up with hybrid boilies fishing 21 wraps up the margin to the orange ribbon with spinners SSM he manged 6 fish by the end of the week, house pellet and mix particle spooned in from the side margin.

Matt Baldock went in Stock pond for this week fishing the usual spots to the pipes at 26 wraps it was a few days before he was into his 1st Gigantica carp and a mega stockie called ‘Savage News’ 28lb 8oz was his prize, sticking to his spots all week with one rod at 9 wraps down the right margin he landed 5 fish all week to 31lb, spinners with SSM once again with Hybrid boilies and feeding house pellet.

Another week passed by in no time once again, fishing slowed up towards the end off the week.

For now all the best

Joe.
