Week Commencing: Sat 14/10/2023

Annual Mate’s Trip

This week we saw DF and 10 of his mates attack the main the lake. Although the weather was up and down, making it a tricky week they still managed to catch a few.

First off we have Chris Evans, Chris decided to go into Alcatraz and start the week off fishing completely different to any other person. Most people fish this swim long at around 30-33 wraps, but Chris decided to start of short. After finding a spot at 22 wraps towards Big Southerly he applied a good helping of mixed maize hemp and whole boilie with his mutli rigs over the top. It was on the first morning he managed to land the biggest stocky in the lake “The Dustbin” at 61lb 8oz. the following night he went on to the catch “The Rocke” at 42lb 8oz. This spot then slowed up for a couple of nights but Chris did have a backup plan, he markered the long spot on the Saturday just encase he needed to go out long. He baited long for one night and then put his rigs out there the following day and this helped Chris catch a further 2 stocky’s to add to his tally.

Next up we have Andrew Gibbins in Co’s Point, Andy went in with the just the boilie approach to try snag a bigun and this did work because he manged to catch the 2nd biggest fish of the week, a fish called “Humpy” at 51lb 4oz. But he also caught the ugliest fish of the week a fish called “Quasi” at 41lb, a fish I would say is shaped more like a crooked triangle than a fish but still there all loved! He did manage one more a mint old original in the name of “Happy Daze” at 33lb 12oz. Andy was fishing at 30 wraps towards the old tits with solid bags.

Steve French I think would of gave his left arm to go back into the swim he had great success in last week. Although he didn’t manage to get back in there he did manage to get in next door “Stink”. He fished the same as he did last week, short but this time at 15 wraps instead of 12 and sprayed boilie past his rigs with the throwing stick. But with the weather being completely different from the week prior he did struggle but in true Frenchy style he still manged to land two, the first being “The Mastiff” at 32lb and on the final morning he managed “The Leather” at 51lb. Solid bags for the win for Frenchy as per usual!

DF picked Pole Position and with Stock Pond being free he decided to utilise the room and had a steady week. He managed to land a total of 10 with the “Tiger Fish” being the biggest at 48lb 8oz. Dan fished two spots one being 19 wraps towards stink between two strips of weed and the other being 18 wraps towards oblivion from Stock Pond. Both spots were fed in the day and topped up after each fish but Dan did leave the swim with no rods in the water from 10am every morning until just before dinner service. The fish would move in after dark so having the rods ready just before dark was key. Rig wise dan was using short 4inch Spinner-D’s on running lead clips. Littler dumbbell wafters topped with pink fake maize over a bed of mixed maize hemp and boilie.

Will Ward the Blackmoth Barber landed in Oblivion and with Big girls being free he also utilise the room and manged to catch a few but with not many fish showing in big girls will decided to fish long out of oblivion aiming between beach and baxters at 30wraps. Will’s biggest fish of the week was “Macks Mirror” at 43lb 8oz. Will was fishing spinners with yellow pop ups over a bed of maize, hemp and boilie.

Last but no means least we Chris in Baxter’s, Chris started his week of short in the swim but with no luck he went out long to swims limit at 25 wraps and manged to catch a couple. “Strap On Sally” being the biggest at 34lb. Chris was fishing spinners rigs with pink wafters topped with pink slow sinking maize over as bed of boilie hemp and maize.

A bit of a slow week but with the conditions they still done very well. We have the Vikings returning next week so that can only mean big boilies and range so lets see how they get on. And with there being allot of rain next week and steadier warmer temps it could be a belter.
