Spawning In August?

A very strange and tricky week this week! Not sure what went on but at the start of the week the fishing fell off a cliff with up to 48hrs without so much as a bite. With it being clubbing season this is very much unheard of! Now we did have temps fly up to 48 degrees in the sun and 37 in the shade but in previous summers the carp do love that heat. But with this being the first time we’ve had this sort of wether this year I’m pretty sure they had another go at spawning. Everything seems to point towards spawning, a few fish did come out, the males were milting on the mate and a few flat bellied females came out. With the majority of the stock stacked up in Big Suv and scotties milking the place up it was very frustrating for the lads near by, Nether the less the lads did manage to catch a few nice one’s.

First up Andy Lewis made the clever decision and went into Scotties Corner. After doing the walk around it showed pure signs that the carp were stacked up in here but obviously for the wrong reasons. Andy ended the week as top rod with a total of 8 fish and the 2nd biggest fish of the week being The Bean at 49lb 2oz. Andy was fishing two spots and a roamer, the first spot being 17.5 wraps towards Traz and the 2nd being 15 wraps towards the spit in open water and the 3rd roamer road being cast a likely looking areas. Andy caught most of his fish from the 15 wrap spot but did catch on the roaming rod and the 17.5 wrap spot. Fishing solid bags and keeping bait to a minimal with a throwing stick or catapult. DNA bug as his free offerings.

Lawrence Goldsmith next door had a frustrating week with fish all over him but struggled to catch them but he did end his week on seven fish with the biggest being the awesome scally Apple Slices at 46lb 12oz, he did also manage another nice fish towards the back end of the week, a fish known as Short Dorsal at 39lb. Lawrence spent his week casting solid bags at showing fish, again keeping this down to a minimal with boilie. The new ISO fish from mainline was his bait of choice, prepped before arrival, washed out and soaked in ISO Fish Smart Liquid.

Chris Clarke Stayed on from last week and the drew didn’t do him any favours, in fact it was worse than last week, last week was ball 9 and this week was ball 12. Safe to say he has now banned me from doing the draw when he’s here! Chris spent the week in oblivion, a swim that hasn’t had much form lately but in true Chris style he still managed to catch a couple. Chris spent all week blanking until the Thursday when he changed up a fished tight to his right hand margin and managed to land two with the biggest being 2 C’s at 52lb 8oz. Again solid bags for the win with sticky krill soaked in liver liquid over the top.

Cooler weather is due next week so lets hope for a better one!

Until next time

Tight lines

Ben
